About Huron Valley Cleaning Collective

I got the idea for The Cleaning Collective in 2017 when I had a new babysitter named Bailee who also cleaned houses on the side. Many of the people who were hiring her to clean their home were only paying her $12 an hour. That seemed way too low for the physical labor of cleaning and I knew I likely had some friends who were interested in house cleaning, so I made a Facebook post about her saying she charged $15 an hour. One of my friends hired her and I found out later, ended up talking Bailee down to $12 an hour again. I knew this friend could afford to pay a higher rate and had only negotiated her down because she could. I also knew I could get Bailee higher paying customers. Cleaning is physical work and people doing it should be paid accordingly.

Bailee had another friend who also did house cleaning named Ruby. The three of us got together and The Cleaning Collective was born. Everyone started making a minimum of $20 an hour plus tips. Soon I was cleaning too and living the single mom life. Flash forward to now, I left my other job as a librarian to run this business full-time. We evolved into the Huron Valley Cleaning Collective and our top priority is to find amazing people who enjoy helping others, thoroughly training them in cleaning, and finding them fabulous customers that make coming to work everyday a positive and fulfilling experience.

Today, Bailee is a third grade teacher and Ruby is now our head trainer. We like to be active in the community and donate free cleanings to cancer patients through the Cleaning for a Reason program. We are also always down to donate cleanings for fundraising auctions and have donated cleanings for the Ypsilanti International Elementary School PTO, the Ypsilanti Ladies’ Literary Club, and Pilar’s Foundation. Cleaning for a Reason offers complimentary house cleaning services to individuals fighting cancer. When cancer creates challenges for daily life at home, our reliable network of residential cleaning professionals, volunteers from the cleaning industry, and community volunteers unite to assist cancer patients and their loved ones.
